Empty Promises
Personal note:
I wrote “Empty Promises” during a season where I learned something the hard way.
It’s easy to say, “If there’s anything I can do, just let me know.”
But when the moment came where they could do a simple little thing… none showed up.
And maybe that’s the lesson in it all:
it’s better to be honest about what you can give, and don't promise things,
than to make a promise you can’t or won't keep.
This song reflects that space —
between words and action.
Because in the end,
it’s not what’s said that matters most…
it’s who’s really there.
Words: Kirsten Alting & Sipke Visser, Music: Sipke Visser & John Geuzinge
Lying in my bed late at night
Shadows dancing in the pale moonlight
Your words they echo in my mind
Only empty promises are left behind
I wasn’t asking for a perfect friend
Just someone to show up now and then
Now (it’s) Your silence screamed louder than your care
Cause when i needed you, You weren’t there
I thought i knew you, but i don’t know anything
Words once golden, but now they only sting
And i’m left with empty promises
Now i see the truth so clear and bright
No more hiding in the shadow of the night
The chains you left can’t hold me anymore
I’ve traded sorrow for a better shore
I thought i knew you, but i don’t know anything
Words once golden but now they only sting
Oh empty promises they fade away
And i’ll stand strong untill the end of days
No more empty promises
I’ve been beaten battered broken down
Now you see me standing with both feeth on solid ground
I thought i knew you, but i don’t know anything
Words once golden but now they only sting
And i’m left with empty promises
No more empty promises!
